Ukrainians pay significantly more for electricity than it costs the state, as stated by People’s Deputy Nina Yuzhanina, who published current data on electricity costs for 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her statement became the subject of broad discussion because it concerns the billions of dollars in profits of state-owned energy companies, which are formed at the expense of ordinary consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the information of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Verkhovna Rada, the cost of 1 kWh of electricity at state-owned enterprises is relatively low. For example, at Energoatom, it is 1.18 UAH, and at Ukrhydroenergo, it is only 1.05 UAH. Thus, the weighted average cost of electricity, excluding depreciation, is 1.16 UAH per kilowatt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, as of June 1, the tariff for the population increased to 4.32 UAH per kWh, and for businesses, it is 7.80 UAH. Therefore, Ukrainians pay almost four times the actual cost of electricity production, and companies pay even more, approximately six to seven times the exact cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yuzhanina emphasized that this has generated enormous revenues for energy companies. For example, Ukrhydroenergo has reported a profit of 10 billion hryvnias, and Energoatom has reported 78 billion, with total revenue of 88 billion hryvnias, of which more than 60 billion remains undistributed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deputy also mentioned the dissatisfaction caused by the position of Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko, who stated that the completion of the Khmelnytskyi NPP power units would be carried out “with their own money.” But these “their own” are funds received from Ukrainians due to inflated tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
