The commission responsible for selecting the Director of the BEB of Ukraine has decided to continue the competitive procedures despite the SBU’s request to conduct an additional check of three candidates for possible ties with the Russian Federation. This was agreed during the last meeting on June 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We will remind you that the day before, representatives of the commission approached the SBU with a request to verify these candidates. However, the head of the commission, Laura Stefan, noted that there is no time to wait for the results, and the interviews should be continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three foreign members of the commission supported Stefan’s position, while the Ukrainian members disagreed with continuing the competition until the official conclusions of the SBU were received. According to the law, in the event of a tie, preference is given to foreign members; however, the decision will take effect only after 24 hours have passed. As a result, the commission decided to postpone the start of the interviews to Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is already support from MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who insists on continuing the competition without additional verification of the candidates’ ties with the Russian Federation. As is known, he is the author of amendments to the legislation that give priority to the votes of international experts over Ukrainian members of the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A well-known lawyer and managing partner of the Law and Protection Bar Association, Oleg Shram, expressed the opinion that the actions of foreign members of the commission may indicate a pre-planned scenario for the selection of the Director of BEB. He noted that this creates the impression of “I see the goal – I see no obstacles.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oleg Shram also emphasized that the commission should already choose in favor of the selected candidate, focusing on Oleksandr Skomarov, who is a candidate for this position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
