From June to October, patients presenting with cases of acute intestinal infections must undergo additional testing to detect the cholera pathogen, according to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Special attention is paid to patients with severe forms of intestinal infections. Deputy Minister of Health and Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine, Ihor Kuzin, noted that operational anti-epidemic teams are working in all regions, ready to hospitalize patients with suspected cholera. Reserves of essential medical products have also been established, including antibiotics and supplies for rehydration and disinfection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Laboratories of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are equipped with modern means for detecting the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, which causes cholera. Medical personnel regularly enhance their skills, mastering the latest diagnostic methods, particularly bacteriological studies and PCR analyses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Observation covers not only patients but also the environment. During the period of increased control, samples of fresh, seawater, and sewage water are tested; however, the risk of infection remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cholera is a severe diarrheal infection that results from consuming water or food contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae serogroups O1 or O139. This disease can spread from person to person, in particular through contaminated water, unwashed vegetables and fruits, as well as when swimming in open water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Without timely treatment, cholera can lead to severe dehydration and even death. Doctors recommend following the rules of personal hygiene, avoiding swimming in unknown water bodies, and urgently consulting a doctor if even mild symptoms of poisoning appear.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
