This holiday, also known as Stepan the Haymaker, has a rich set of signs, prohibitions, and traditions that have come down to us from ancient times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the traditions that exist on this day is the consecration of seeds and ears of wheat, symbolizing fertility. People wore clean and new clothes, as befits an essential meeting with nature and God. Since the harvest was already coming to an end, on August 15, it was forbidden to work with sharp objects, such as shovels or knives. Instead, late fruits were collected: plums, apples, cherries, and flowers were grown from which wreaths were woven. If someone in the family was sick, representatives put wreath petals in tea, believing in their healing properties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is strictly forbidden to do on this day?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Having a wedding or celebrating is not a time for fun.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swearing, arguing &#8211; the day should be peaceful.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working hard &#8211; this day is called for peace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Walking barefoot is considered dangerous, as it can bring trouble.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Young girls are not recommended to get a haircut if they are looking for a groom &#8211; this is considered a bad sign.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wearing dirty clothes or shoes is said to invite trouble.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keeping old or broken objects at home &#8211; they attract negative energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for folk signs, the weather on Assumption also has its own meaning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clear weather on August 15 promises good autumn days in September.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cirrus clouds in the morning portend good weather.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spiders weaving small webs warn of strong winds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rain on this day predicts a good potato harvest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Frogs croaking indicate the approach of rain, and their silence indicates the wind.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cats sharpening their claws on the wall means possible bad weather.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, the Assumption is not only a spiritual holiday, but also a moment for a deep awareness of our connection with nature.
