It’s no secret that schoolchildren in Ukraine often have to carry heavy backpacks, which, depending on the contents, can be too burdensome for their age. Olga Krivoshey, the mother of a fifth-grader, decided to highlight this problem by showing her son’s torn backpack in a video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her TikTok post, she specified that the backpack, filled with books necessary for school, weighed 4.2 kilograms, which was the reason for its breakage. Olga admitted that she barely carried this heavy load to the bus, and on the way back, the backpack could not withstand the load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trying to find a solution, the woman turned to artificial intelligence, which reported that the recommended weight of a backpack for schoolchildren should be only 10-15% of the child’s weight. For students in grades 5-6, this means approximately 2.5 kilograms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After that, Ukrainian parents began to weigh their children’s backpacks, and the results amazed them: some students’ backpacks weighed more than five kilograms. Parents actively discussed this topic in the comments, offering various solutions, for example, exchanging textbooks between classmates to reduce the load. Some noted that children were leaving books at home and using tablets for studying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the comments were the following: “My child’s back is more important to me, so she only carries a tablet, and all the textbooks are loaded,” as well as recommendations to use e-books that are safe for eyesight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unfortunately, several users complained that their children’s backpacks in grades 7-8 weighed as much as 11 kg. However, some defended the use of heavy bags, recalling that in their time, they also carried heavy books, and this, they say, did not interfere with their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
