The National Bank of Ukraine has announced a decision to begin the gradual withdrawal of 10-kopeck coins from cash circulation starting from October 1, 2025. These coins remain legal tender, but banks will no longer accept them in exchange for their customers’ deposits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No action will be required from citizens: the coins will not need to be returned or exchanged, as they will continue to be accepted by retail outlets, service enterprises, and banks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first withdrawal is scheduled for October 1, 2025, after which financial institutions will not receive reinforcement with 10-kopeck coins from the National Bank, and new coins of this denomination will not be produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This decision is due to the significant number of such coins in circulation \u2014 more than 4.1 billion, which is approximately one-third of all coins in Ukraine \u2014 and their decreasing relevance. As noted in the NBU, the gradual withdrawal will help reduce the costs of the state and banks for the production, transportation, and storage of small amounts of money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In total, there are approximately 5.5 billion coins in circulation: 1.4 billion of them are in denominations of 50 kopecks, and 4.1 billion are in denominations of 10 kopecks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Equally important, from October 1, 2025, in the absence of 10-kopeck coins in stores or restaurants, the following rounding rules will apply in checks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
amounts from 1 to 24 kopecks will be rounded to 0 kopecks;
amounts from 25 to 49 kopecks will be rounded to 50 kopecks;
amounts from 51 to 74 kopecks will be rounded to 50 kopecks;
amounts from 75 to 99 kopecks will be rounded to 1 hryvnia.
At the same time, during non-cash payments, the amounts will remain unchanged, as rounding will only be applied to cash payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These changes are enshrined in Resolution No. 115 of the Board of the National Bank, which was approved on September 8, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
