In the Japanese city of Susono, Toyota, along with its subsidiary Woven by Toyota, has inaugurated Woven City, an innovative project first presented at CES 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening of the city was a landmark event, marking the arrival of the first residents and the start of activities by innovative companies. Woven City is intended to become a testing ground for new mobility technologies and an essential stage in Toyota’s transformation into a global mobility company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concept of this city distinguishes two main categories of participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Inventors” are startups, companies, research institutions, and other innovators who will have the opportunity to test their products and services directly in the city’s infrastructure. This idea is based on the Japanese concept of “Kakezan”, which involves combining Toyota’s experience with Woven by Toyota’s software solutions and ideas from partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the first participants in the program is artist Naoto Inti Raimi, who created the anthem and audio logo of Woven City, expanding the number of companies involved to 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To encourage new talent, an acceleration program called Woven City Challenge: Hack the Mobility was launched on September 8, within which startups and scientists can submit applications until October 14, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Weavers” are residents and guests of Woven City, who will be direct users of innovations and provide feedback for their improvement. Initially, the city is planned to accommodate approximately 300 people, including Toyota employees and their families, and it will later open to a broader audience in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The opening of Woven City was accompanied by the event “Weaving the Future – Day 01”, at which Naoto Inti Raimi first presented the anthem. Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda, known as the “Chief Weaver”, also delivered his speech:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“With Woven City, we will embody the concept of ‘Kakezan’ – multiplication. No company can achieve great results on its own; to do so, we must join forces. Let’s create a brighter future together.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the announcement of its transformation into a mobile company at CES 2018 to the actual launch of Woven City, Toyota has been realizing its vision, striving to create products and services that improve the lives of people around the world through collaboration and synergy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
