Debtors who owe money to financial institutions may be subject to court proceedings. However, sometimes these debts are transferred to collection companies that use fake summonses to intimidate debtors and induce them to return the money. Lawyer Serhiy Starenky noted this in the program “Kyiv24”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Starenky noted that such “documents” can appear genuine and include information about an allegedly adopted court decision or the arrest of the debtor’s property. You can identify a fake by the inscription “Sample” printed in small print in the corner of the document. The lawyer recommends that people transfer such materials to the National Bank to document violations. In the event of repeated abuse by the company, it may be fined or removed from the register of collection organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It is difficult for ordinary people to navigate this situation. They realize that they have a debt. Collectors often inflate this amount and add a penalty, which causes fear in debtors,” the lawyer explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also emphasized the importance of repaying the debt as soon as possible and recommended seeking legal assistance to avoid litigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This summer, state-owned PrivatBank intends to sell more than 650,000 old non-performing loans for a total of 5.2 billion hryvnias, which collectors can purchase at a significant discount. If a buyer is found, debtors should be prepared for active, but legal, attempts to collect funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This step is aimed at cleaning up the non-performing assets (NPL) portfolio, which at the end of 2024 stood at 4.9% – the lowest among state-owned banks in Ukraine.
