In Sumy, there is an educational space where, despite the ongoing war, children study Russian language and literature and have access to lessons in art and academic sciences. The Asgard school offers opportunities to learn to play the sopilka and to work with pen and clay, and approximately 90% of classes are held in Ukrainian.<\/p>\n
Valeria, one of the founders of the space, said that their activities have nothing to do with supporting Russian culture. She clarified that the school does not promote Russian cultural heritage, but only provides opportunities to become acquainted with classics unrelated to current events. The vast majority of lessons are held in Ukrainian.<\/p>\n
The educational space was organized by a group of parents who chose a family-based education model. Currently, seven children from 5 families study here, and tuition costs range from 9 to 12 thousand hryvnias per month for 5-7 lessons per day. Children can receive educational documents by passing certification exams at a licensed school.<\/p>\n
The head of the space, Maryna Korotka, emphasized the importance of communication and unity among people, believing that language can serve as a bridge for understanding. She noted that “Asgard” does not engage in any agitation in favor of Russian culture, but instead creates a family space for joint learning and upbringing.<\/p>\n
The State Service for the Quality of Education of the Sumy Region noted that this educational space lacks a license and does not engage in official academic activities. The head of the education department, Alla Ryabukha, emphasized that their powers do not extend to inspecting such institutions. She expressed concern about parents’ choice of such commercial educational institutions.<\/p>\n
Viktoriya Viter, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, also drew attention to the legislative requirements for studying the Ukrainian language in educational institutions. Currently, checks are underway into the status of “Asgard” and possible violations of its activities, especially regarding the conduct of the educational process in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
