Solar activity has increased significantly again, and on the night of December 4, the Earth was affected by a medium-level magnetic storm. Experts from the Laboratory of Cosmophysics and Helioseismology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine explain that several factors cause this.<\/p>\n
The primary role in this process was played by the solar wind, which originated from a coronal hole on the Sun. In addition, there was a significant plasma ejection after a class X solar flare that occurred on December 1. Scientists believe its edge will likely reach Earth’s atmosphere this night.<\/p>\n
Geomagnetic activity can reach the G2 level, which is a medium-strength storm. This can lead to problems with communications, navigation, and satellites, as well as a deterioration in the well-being of people sensitive to weather changes. It is important to note that this storm can last longer than usual, since the coronal hole is of considerable size, which ensures a stable flow of solar wind.<\/p>\n
In addition, scientists have noted the appearance of a new group of spots on the Sun, the second-largest in the last decade. This may indicate a possible increase in activity in the near future.<\/p>\n
In November, a record-breaking X5-class flare was observed, leaving behind a powerful radiation trail that caused extreme cosmic radiation at altitudes where airplanes fly.<\/p>\n
