The court has sentenced a man to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property for providing information to Russian special services regarding the shelling of the Sumy region. This decision was made possible thanks to evidence collected by the Security Service of Ukraine.<\/p>\n
It is known that the 65-year-old man, who was previously an activist of the banned Party of Regions, worked for the enemy, providing the FSB with the coordinates of Ukrainian units of the Armed Forces and the State Border Guard Service in border areas. This information was used to plan the shelling of Ukrainian positions with long-range artillery and guided aerial bombs.<\/p>\n
According to operational information, the man came into the FSB’s field of view even before the start of the large-scale invasion, during visits to relatives in Russia. After February 24, 2022, he began receiving tasks remotely from a special service officer to collect intelligence on the Ukrainian Defense Forces.<\/p>\n
To carry out his tasks, the traitor traveled through the border areas using his own car and carried out covert filming of Ukrainian positions. In addition, he tried to obtain information from residents and publicly supported Russian attacks on the region, glorifying the invaders.<\/p>\n
SBU officers detained the man in June 2023 during an attempt to conduct reconnaissance near fortified points. During a search, a Russian passport, a Party of Regions party card, and a smartphone with several messengers for communicating with his supervisor were found in his possession.<\/p>\n
The court found him guilty under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: high treason under martial law (Part 2, Article 111) and justification of Russian aggression (Part 1, Article 436-2).<\/p>\n
In addition, the SBU documented an attempt by a Russian “mole” to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The attacker attempted to pose as a chaplain to gather intelligence on elite units of the Airborne Assault Forces.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
