Thanks to the efforts of the Ukrainian Ombudsman, dozens of people have returned home. Among them is a woman who suffered a stroke and was able to meet her daughter for the first time in four years.<\/p>\n
Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets reported that he had met with the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights, Tatyana Moskalkova, who, along with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ukraine and Russia, also joined.<\/p>\n
After the negotiations, important agreements were reached. Two thousand parcels of humanitarian aid and letters from relatives were handed over to our prisoners of war in Ukraine. The mechanism for verifying information about persons who disappeared under exceptional circumstances was also discussed, and the Ukrainian side handed over the relevant lists.<\/p>\n
Separately, lists of seriously wounded and seriously ill Ukrainians, as well as civilians who are illegally detained on Russian territory, were handed over. The issue of Ukrainian prisoners of war convicted in Russia was also raised, and a list of such persons was handed over. Other humanitarian issues were also discussed.<\/p>\n
As a result of the previous work, a family reunification procedure was organized. 15 Ukrainians, most of whom have limited mobility, were returned from the territory of Russia and the temporarily occupied regions.<\/p>\n
Among the returnees is a 56-year-old woman who, after a stroke, had remained in Russia since 2022. Her daughter turned to the Ombudsman’s Office for assistance in returning. After almost four years, the woman finally saw her daughter.<\/p>\n
Another 45 citizens of Ukraine who were in temporary detention centers for foreigners on the territory of Russia were also returned to their homeland.<\/p>\n
“We continue to work to return all Ukrainians home,” said Dmytro Lubinets.<\/p>\n
In addition, on December 9, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with Pope Leo XIV, the second during the pontificate.
