The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is actively discussing the introduction of new financial sanctions for citizens who evade mobilization or voluntarily leave military units. People’s Deputy Fedir Venislavsky reported this.<\/p>\n
Among the possible measures is blocking bank cards, similar to the restrictions placed on debtors for alimony and utility payments. According to Venislavsky, although the final version of the amendments to the legislation is not yet ready, there is an urgent need to introduce more effective means of influencing violators. He recalled that during the preparation of the law on mobilization, the idea of \u200b\u200brestricting access to bank accounts was discussed. Still, in the end, the decision was limited to a ban on driving vehicles.<\/p>\n
Venislavsky noted that the current measures have proven ineffective because there is currently only the option of blocking drivers’ licenses. In his opinion, this is not enough to deter persons who evade service. Such a restriction does not have the intended effect on violators’ behavior.<\/p>\n
The MP drew attention to the imbalance in approaches to financial measures. If sanctions are introduced quickly for debts for utility services, then such measures are still not provided for failure to fulfill military service obligations. Currently, the parliament is discussing how to resolve this issue and introduce stricter financial sanctions against those liable for military service.<\/p>\n
Thus, the issue of blocking bank cards for people who evade service and for military personnel who voluntarily left their units remains under discussion. Still, the MPs do not rule out its return as part of future legislative initiatives.<\/p>\n
