The Security Service of Ukraine has identified a former deputy from the banned OPZh party in Luhansk Oblast, who is suspected of aiding the aggressor. This person was detained in an office near Kyiv as part of measures carried out by the SBU in the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, with the support of the Dnipropetrovsk regional prosecutor’s office.<\/p>\n
According to the investigation, the detainee is the owner of an industrial complex located in the temporarily occupied territory of eastern Ukraine. In 2022, he re-registered the enterprise in accordance with Russian regulations, in violation of the Ukrainian authorities’ ban on doing business with the aggressor state.<\/p>\n
In particular, he purchased technological equipment in Russia for his plant. After the start of the full-scale war, the former parliamentarian purchased equipment worth over 1 million euros from a Russian company from Naberezhnye Chelny. To disguise these deliveries, he placed an order for an affiliated Belarusian company, avoiding ties with Russian business.<\/p>\n
The investigation also established that the funds for the equipment went to the budget of the Russian Federation, which actually financed the war against Ukraine. During a search of the detainee’s office, law enforcement officers seized documents, seals, computer equipment, and smartphones that confirm the transaction.<\/p>\n
The suspect was charged under Part 1 of Article 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (assistance to an aggressor state). He is currently in custody, and the maximum penalty under this article is up to 12 years’ imprisonment, with the possibility of property confiscation.<\/p>\n
The SBU noted that the activities of the former deputy caused serious harm to the national security of Ukraine, as they contributed to the legalization of Russian equipment and funds coming from the aggressor country. Exposing such schemes is an important part of the special services’ work to prevent economic cooperation between Ukrainian entrepreneurs and the Russian Federation and to protect national interests.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
