The National Police of Ukraine has exposed an organized group that organized the supply of drugs to penal institutions. The prohibited substances were carefully disguised in food and household items, which allowed their unhindered transportation to the prisoners.<\/p>\n
During the investigation, it was found that the participants in the criminal scheme had previously met while serving their sentences. In particular, a 25-year-old convict with a criminal status supervised drug trafficking to the Starobabanivska correctional colony, while in the Kyiv pre-trial detention center the process was controlled by the so-called “watcher”.<\/p>\n
Acquaintances, cellmates, as well as relatives who were at large were involved in the criminal activity. A separate role in this scheme was played by employees of the institutions responsible for checking the parcels, who formally inspected them.<\/p>\n
Drugs, including methadone and cannabis, were disguised in ordinary products such as canned goods, jars of honey and jam, bread, cookies, muffins, condensed milk, as well as in personal hygiene products such as shower gels and wet wipes. Even equipment such as routers was used to hide the illegal substances.<\/p>\n
The disguised shipments were then sent by mail to institutions, where they were received by other members of the group who distributed drugs among prisoners.<\/p>\n
Law enforcement officers documented a wide range of criminal activity and found that the suspects were involved in at least two dozen cases. During the special operation, searches were conducted in the homes of the suspects and in penal institutions. Narcotic and psychotropic substances, mobile phones, draft notes, bank cards, ammunition of various calibers, as well as more than 18 thousand dollars were seized.<\/p>\n
Five people have already been charged, including an employee of the Starobabanivka Correctional Colony. Their actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.<\/p>\n
The operation to expose the perpetrators was carried out by investigators of the Shevchenko Police Department of Kyiv together with operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department and with the participation of employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, under the procedural guidance of the Shevchenko District Prosecutor’s Office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
