Law enforcement agencies have completed an investigation into two individuals who fraudulently received money from relatives of servicemen under the pretext of providing assistance in preparing documents for their release.<\/p>\n
In the Lviv region, a case has been sent to court against a 39-year-old woman and her 44-year-old husband, who has previously had problems with the law. They are accused of fraud, the total amount of which exceeds one million hryvnias.<\/p>\n
The investigation established that the attackers specialized in women whose relatives served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, offering them “assistance” in preparing documents for their alleged legal discharge from the army. In reality, they did not intend to fulfill any obligations, simply taking the funds received.<\/p>\n
One of the victims gave the scammers the equivalent of 700 thousand hryvnias in various currencies, hoping for the release of her son. Another woman lost about 400 thousand hryvnias for \u201cservices\u201d in releasing her brother, and another victim gave 43 thousand hryvnias for help in releasing her roommate.<\/p>\n
The operation to expose the fraudulent scheme was carried out by criminal police officers together with investigators of Lviv District Police Department No. 1, under the procedural guidance of the Galician District Prosecutor’s Office. Criminal proceedings have been opened under Parts 2 and 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has already been sent to court.<\/p>\n
