The study participants provided information about their coffee consumption, which was compared with subsequent medical diagnoses.<\/p>\n<p>The results showed a J-shaped relationship: moderate amounts of coffee were associated with the lowest risk of developing mental health disorders, while excessive or no coffee consumption increased the chances of mental health problems. For example, drinking more than five cups of coffee a day was associated with an increased risk of mood disorders.<\/p>\n<p>This effect was observed regardless of whether the coffee was regular, instant or decaffeinated, and the researchers noted that the results were more pronounced in men.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure the accuracy of the study, other factors that can affect mental health, such as age, education level, physical activity and the presence of comorbidities, were also taken into account.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers also conducted genetic tests on the participants to determine their ability to metabolize caffeine, but found that genetic factors did not affect the results.<\/p>\n<p>The study has some limitations, as data on coffee consumption was only collected at the beginning, so participants&#8217; habits could have changed over time. Therefore, the results do not prove a direct cause-and-effect relationship.<\/p>\n<p>The possible positive effect of coffee may be explained by the presence of bioactive compounds that affect inflammatory processes and neural networks in the brain involved in the regulation of mood and stress responses. Similar mechanisms have already been discussed in other studies.<\/p>\n<p>Coffee consumption has also been previously associated with health benefits such as a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, maintaining a healthy weight and extending life expectancy.<\/p>\n<p>With the increasing incidence of mental disorders in the world, scientists emphasize the importance of simple preventive measures, where moderate coffee consumption can play an important role in maintaining mental health.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that previous studies have also shown a connection between coffee and slowing down the aging process: participants who consumed 3-4 cups per day demonstrated a younger biological age.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Drinking coffee not only boosts energy, but it may also have a positive impact on mental health, according to a study published in Science Alert.
