According to Forbes Ukraine, the cost of homemade Easter cake increased by 19% per year, reaching 427 hryvnias, which exceeds the official inflation rate, which is about 7.9%.<\/p>\n
This phenomenon explains the preparation of Easter cake, since the main ingredients – butter, eggs, milk and sugar – have become especially expensive. They form the main recipe and at the same time have the greatest impact on the cost. As a result, Easter cake has become a reflection of significant expenses that interfere with the family budget.<\/p>\n
At the same time, significant changes concern not only the cost of products. The calculations took into account the cost of electricity and labor for the first time. If we estimate the time spent on cooking by the average salary, it becomes obvious that baking homemade Easter eggs is no longer a “free” tradition. Labor costs, together with ingredients, account for almost 60% of the total cost.<\/p>\n
This trend is changing the perception of choice. Previously, many people cooked Easter eggs at home to save money, but now buying a ready-made dish in a supermarket turns out to be cheaper than cooking at home.<\/p>\n
This is especially important for pensioners. Over the year, the average pension has increased by about 13%, while the cost of Easter eggs has increased by 19%. This indicates that festive pastries have become less affordable for the elderly, which highlights social inequality.<\/p>\n
For working Ukrainians, the situation looks a little more optimistic: the increase in salaries partially compensates for the increase in prices. But even in this case, Easter cake ceases to be a minor expense, and the festive table becomes part of budget planning.<\/p>\n
In the context of a long period, all this becomes even more noticeable. Over the past five years, the cost of Easter cake has doubled. At the same time, salaries have improved by approximately 2.2 times, and pensions – by only 1.9 times. This indicates that the same inflationary dynamics affect different social categories differently.<\/p>\n
Currently, the Easter cake market is undergoing changes: in addition to affordable options, the premium product segment is actively developing. In 2026, craft Easter cakes worth up to 17 thousand hryvnias appeared, which act as elite gifts.<\/p>\n
Thus, Easter Easter cake is no longer just a culinary attribute of the celebration, but also an economic indicator that demonstrates changes in the cost of living, labor and time in Ukraine. Cooking Easter cake now does not promise savings.
