The Security Service of Ukraine has reported a woman who attempted to kill volunteer and activist Serhiy Sternenko on May 1, 2025. She is accused of committing several crimes under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including: Part 2 of Article 111 – high treason under martial law, as well as attempted murder for selfish motives, on order and by prior conspiracy of a group of persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect is a 45-year-old woman from the Odessa region who lives in Kyiv. Russian special services recruited her late last year when she was looking for opportunities to earn money on the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initially, her task was monitoring cars, photographing, and transmitting data to her handlers. Later, she was instructed to make an improvised explosive device, and she also changed her place of residence, moving to the center of Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In April, the woman began to follow Serhiy Sternenko, settling in the same apartment complex where he lived. She was then sent the coordinates of a weapons cache containing a PM pistol and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the day of the attack, having received instructions, she was ready for action: she knew the make of Sternenko\u2019s car and the approximate time he would leave the house. When the activist left the entrance, the woman opened fire, wounding him in the leg. The attacker was detained at the scene by SBU officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the search, a phone with evidence of cooperation with Russian special services was seized from her, and parts for making explosives were also found in another apartment. The SBU continues the investigation and establishes all the details of the case. The detainee faces up to 15 years in prison.
