Winter cold in apartments: the new heating season is at risk of disruption

Ukraine is at risk of failing to prepare for the next heating season due to insufficient gas reserves. This was announced by Volodymyr Omelchenko, the director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, on one of the TV channels.

Following the end of the previous heating season, a record-low amount of gas remained in Ukrainian gas storage facilities. To ensure a normal start to the 2025-2026 heating season, Ukraine needs to pump at least 13 billion cubic meters of gas into storage facilities.

Volodymyr Omelchenko noted that to implement this plan, Ukraine needs to pump from 25 to 30 million cubic meters of gas daily. Currently, this figure reaches only 15 million cubic meters per day, which is significantly behind the required pace.

If the situation remains unchanged, Ukraine is threatened with a shortage of “blue fuel” in the winter. If hostilities continue, the heating season may be disrupted, potentially leading to insufficient heating in many apartments.

Volodymyr Omelchenko expressed hope that the government would be able to avoid a collapse in this area. He also emphasized that gas tariffs for the population would not be increased during the war.
