The enemy is recruiting teenagers through Roblox and Discord: they become spies by playing the “game”

Russian intelligence agencies have stepped up their use of online games to recruit Ukrainian teenagers. They disguise their intentions as regular quests or missions, trying to get children to gather intelligence and sometimes even participate in sabotage actions.

Law enforcement agencies report that attackers operate through popular platforms such as Roblox, Arma 3 and Discord, and also use messengers and mobile applications to strengthen contact with younger Internet users.

One of the most common schemes is the “gamer friend”. A stranger in a chat gradually builds trust, takes an interest in the child’s life and creates the impression of friendship. Later, he transfers the communication to private channels, such as Telegram, where he offers to take part in a “game” or “competition”.

Children may receive notifications about winnings, which include both virtual prizes and promises of real gifts. Along with the “prize,” instructions are given, such as taking a photo of a certain object or performing another task. If the child refuses, blackmail and psychological pressure begin.

Another common method is the “game quest,” where the child is required to perform tasks, such as taking photos of buildings or other objects. This is presented as part of a game, but in reality can serve to collect important information.

There is also a “courage test” format, where teenagers perform seemingly simple actions, such as drawing graffiti or putting up leaflets. They are told that this is just a game, but in reality such actions can be part of criminal activity.

Law enforcement officers emphasize that the greatest danger is that children do not always realize the consequences of their actions. Manipulation, promises of rewards, and psychological pressure can force them to perform dangerous tasks.

In case of suspicion of recruitment or contact with such individuals, parents should urgently contact the relevant authorities, such as the cyber police, the Security Service of Ukraine, or the juvenile police, which can also provide psychological support.
