Hungary accuses Ukraine of banning political party — Foreign Ministry denies this

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has accused Ukraine of banning a party that allegedly represented the interests of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia. He announced on his Facebook page.

In his message, Szijjártó called on the Ukrainian leadership to provide clarification on media reports about the alleged ban on the “Hungarian Cultural Society of Transcarpathia.”

Journalists asked for a comment from the spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Georgy Tykhy, who assured them that the information about banning the Hungarian society was false. He stressed: “Our bilateral relations already have many problems. We should not add fake messages to this list.”

In Brussels, Hungary’s EU Minister, Janusz Boka, also stated that Hungary would continue to block Ukraine’s European integration process, accusing Kyiv of espionage activities on Hungarian territory.

It should be noted that during the long period of the war, Viktor Orban’s government repeatedly declared its opposition to providing military assistance to Ukraine and the integration of the Ukrainian state into NATO and also spoke out against sanctions imposed on Russia. Currently, Hungary is actively using its veto power to block negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU.
