The US planned talks in the Vatican, but the Kremlin refused

US President’s special representative Keith Kellogg reported that Kyiv had provided Washington with a list of conditions for achieving peace, while Russia did not agree to talks in the Vatican.

Speaking on Fox News, Kellogg noted that the US had received a list of conditions for a peace agreement from Ukraine.

“We have a list of conditions that Kyiv provided, and we need to get a similar one from Moscow. We need to put pressure on Russia to encourage them to sit down at the negotiating table,” he stressed.

According to Kellogg, the US tried to organize a new round of talks between Ukraine and Russia in the Vatican, but Moscow refused. “We were hoping to hold a meeting in the Vatican, but the Russians did not want that,” he said, adding that the next meeting could take place in Geneva.

Kellogg emphasized that the situation on the front is accompanied by numerous violations of the Geneva Convention, in particular, unintentional shelling of civilians, which is a violation of international law.

He also noted that under the leadership of Donald Trump, the US has been actively trying to establish a dialogue; meetings have been held in Jeddah, Riyadh, Paris, London, and Istanbul. Currently, there is a 22-point plan, which, according to Kellogg, does not satisfy either side, so it can be considered a balanced approach.

“Progress begins where neither side feels fully satisfied with its demands,” Kellogg summarized.

He noted that losses during the war exceeded 1.2 million, including dead and wounded, which is more than US losses in World War II. “This war cannot be won on the battlefield – it will only end through negotiations,” he concluded.
