Assistance for Ukrainian refugees: France expands employment, financial payments and housing programs

France has taken necessary measures to support Ukrainian refugees who have fled the war. The new bill No. 596, adopted by parliament, opens up numerous opportunities for people who have received temporary protection status.

One of the key innovations was the introduction of the “intern-associate” status. This will enable doctors and medical professionals who have received education outside the EU, particularly in Ukraine, to practice their profession without undergoing lengthy procedures to confirm their diplomas. Thus, Ukrainian specialists will be able to engage in medical activities actively.

In addition, Ukrainians enjoying temporary protection will receive the same social benefits as official refugees. This includes assistance to people with disabilities, support for people over 60, as well as housing benefits and fundamental social guarantees.

The French budget for 2025 provides 328 million euros to meet the needs of Ukrainians. These funds will be used for housing rental, social support, and integration programs. This is not just a charitable gesture but an essential component of state policy.

Another significant innovation: the status of temporary protection has been equated with official “permanent residence.” This allows Ukrainians to take driving tests in France and register cars with Ukrainian license plates without the need to exchange documents.

Despite the Russian aggression, which began in 2014, France demonstrates real support for Ukraine. This provides Ukrainians with the opportunity to live without unnecessary restrictions and with hope for a better future. It is essential to support one another, lending a hand in any situation.
