An art performance by a Ukrainian artist took place at the premiere of The Weeknd’s film in Kyiv
Musician The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) announced the Ukrainian premiere of his debut film, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” and expressed his admiration for the works of Ukrainian artist Daniel Skrypnyk, whose art materials have become the official design of the film.
The pre-premiere screening of the psychological thriller took place on May 26 at the Kyiv Oscar Cinema in the Gulliver Shopping Center. Famous artists, influencers, bloggers, and journalists took part in the event. The film will be released in wide release on May 29.
The connection between Ukraine and world art
At the premiere, viewers had the opportunity to meet Daniel Skrypnyk, the artist who created the film’s official artwork. He activated his creativity when The Weeknd shared his video on social media, accompanying it with the comment: “Wow, wow, wow! What a talented vision!”
“These are not just paintings. I chose those that The Weeknd personally saw and reposted. These are fragments of my thoughts that are intertwined with his perception,” Skrypnyk noted. “This art has become a bridge between Ukraine and world music, and I am happy to contribute to this.”
Before the screening, the artist held a live performance in the cinema hall, creating new art right in front of the audience. As Daniel explained, he sought to “embody what no one has done at the premiere of the film” and also “show the world that uniqueness is here, in Ukraine.”
About the film
“Hurry Up to Tomorrow” is a psychological thriller based on The Weeknd’s album of the same name. This is his first significant role in a movie, where he played alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The film is directed by Trey Edward Schultz, known for such films as “Waves” and “It Comes at Night.”
It is expected that viewers will receive strong emotional impressions, a star-studded cast, an atmospheric soundtrack, and an unexpected denouement.
