Vinegar, baking soda and peroxide: effective ways to remove urine odor from carpets and sofas without damage

The smell of urine on carpets or furniture is not a reason to panic. You can resolve this issue on your own without needing professional assistance. The main thing is to act quickly and correctly.

This smell often originates from children, pets, or elderly relatives. Although the situation is unpleasant, it can be resolved without incurring expensive costs.

For fresh stains on carpets, use paper towels and a mixture of vinegar, water, and soap. After processing, let everything dry first, then sprinkle with baking soda and vacuum again. For old stains, a solution of hydrogen peroxide and soda will suffice, but be cautious, as this method is only suitable for light fabrics.

Furniture upholstery can also be cleaned. First, check the label – if it says “W” or “WS,” clean it with water. For “S” or “X,” only dry cleaning is required. In the first case, blot the stain, then treat it with a vinegar solution, sprinkle with baking soda, and leave overnight.

For clothes, the process is even more straightforward. Soak the items in water with baking soda or boron, and then wash with an enzymatic detergent. White items can be treated with bleach; if the smell persists, repeat the procedure.

To avoid a repeat of the situation, avoid using ammonia (it attracts animals), refrain from using steam, and do not rub the stain. The best choice is enzymatic products, and also monitor the health of your pets and children.
