Magnetic storms in June: when to expect the peak and how to protect yourself
The expected magnetic storms during the week can negatively affect your well-being. They can cause headaches, sleep disturbances, and changes in blood pressure.
Forecast for the period from June 9 to 13
According to the forecast:
June 9: Kp-4-5 index – medium storm
June 10: Kp-3 – weak activity
June 11: Kp-4 – moderate storm
June 12: Kp-3 – activity decreases
June 13: Kp-5-6 – possible intensification
What is a magnetic storm?
Magnetic storms are caused by flares on the Sun and the release of coronal mass when charged particles reach the Earth and affect its magnetic field. If the Kp index exceeds 5, this is considered a severe stress for the body.
Who is most affected?
Solar activity primarily affects individuals with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions, stress, or high blood pressure. Pregnant women, the elderly, and those experiencing emotional stress are also at risk.
Symptoms may include:
headache, heaviness in the head
drowsiness, difficulty sleeping
concentration problems
dizziness, blood pressure spikes
irritability, fatigue
How to support your body?
It is impossible to avoid the effects of storms completely, but you can mitigate their impact. Here are some valuable tips:
Sleep and daily routine
Monitor your sleep and aim for 7–9 hours of sleep each night. Go to bed earlier and try to take short daytime breaks.
Nutrition and fluid balance
Drink at least 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day. Teas with mint, chamomile, lemon balm, or sage are recommended. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and energy drinks. Enrich your diet with fruits, vegetables, fish, and foods rich in magnesium (nuts, bananas, dark chocolate). It is better to limit fatty and spicy foods.
Physical activity
Do not overexert yourself. Light physical activity, such as walking or yoga, can help relieve tension. Ventilate the room more often.
Psycho-emotional state
Keep calm. Relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and warm baths with salt and essential oils will help improve your condition. Try to focus on the positive.
Medications and doctor’s consultation
If you have chronic diseases, follow the recommendations of your medical specialists and keep the prescribed medications readily available. If your condition worsens, do not postpone a visit to the doctor.
On June 8, a medium-strength magnetic storm occurred. According to weather service forecasts, geomagnetic activity could reach a K-index level of 4, which is considered moderate on a scale of 1 to 9.
