Utility fraud causes significant financial losses to Ukrainians: why we are forced to pay more

This summer, many Ukrainians may face a significant increase in utility tariffs.

The reason for this is overestimated charges, which are often not adequately justified. As noted by 24 Channel, Oleg Popenko, the head of the Union of Consumers of Utilities, warns that even if consumers pay on time, this does not guarantee adequate payment amounts. It is often challenging to verify the actual figures, so it is essential to maintain meticulous documentation – from tracking calls to suppliers to saving receipts.

To avoid unjustified expenses, consumers are advised to promptly submit meter readings, check their serviceability, and require periodic verification. In the event of problems such as a cold battery or supply interruption, it is necessary to contact specialists and document the situation in writing. If the supplier does not respond, you should seek an official response and, if required, defend your rights in court.

It is also important to note that if the meters are faulty or missing, companies often operate with average figures that can be three times higher than the actual consumption figures.

This is one of the screws of the war unleashed by Russia in 2014 when Ukraine was beginning to recover from the collapse of the USSR. All resources were spent on defense, not modernization. Today, Ukrainians pay not only for utilities but also for survival. Therefore, it is essential to support the army by donating and volunteering, as the Armed Forces of Ukraine provide protection, allowing us to have access to critical services such as heat, water, and electricity.
