Trump sees ‘opportunity for deal’ amid violent attacks between Iran and Israel

Amid the most significant escalation between Israel and Iran, Donald Trump unexpectedly expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to the conflict despite numerous airstrikes and significant human losses.

US President Donald Trump expressed his opinion on the possibility of a peace agreement between Iran and Israel on his blog Truth Social at a time when both countries continue active hostilities. Al Jazeera published this information.

Trump wrote: “Iran and Israel must reach an agreement, and it will happen.” He also noted: “Peace between Israel and Iran can come shortly! Active diplomatic work is underway,” without providing any specific details.

This statement was made only a few hours after a large-scale Israeli strike on facilities in Iran. According to information from the IDF, more than 50 fighter jets participated in the operation, targeting 170 sites. In total, more than 720 facilities related to Iran’s defense and nuclear infrastructure were hit.

Explosions were heard in various areas of Tehran, and videos of plumes of smoke over the city appeared on social networks. In particular, strikes were carried out in Jamaran, Valiasr Square, Niavaran, and the central parts of the capital.

In response to the attacks, Iran announced the launch of ballistic missiles at Israel, and the Israeli Air Defense Forces warned the population of the potential danger and called for shelter.

Iranian officials stressed that they would give a tough response in the event of continued attacks by Israel. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Israel is acting with the support of the United States.

The strikes were the largest in recent years and reportedly killed key Iranian military and nuclear figures, including:

Hossein Salami, head of the IRGC

Mohammed Bagheri, chief of staff of the armed forces

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Aerospace Forces

Gholamali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters

Six top Iranian nuclear scientists were also among the dead. Tehran accused Tel Aviv of trying to destroy its nuclear capabilities.

The strike also targeted Mashhad, Iran’s central religious city and a major spiritual center worldwide. Recently, Israeli aircraft attacked an Iranian tanker at the city’s airport, carrying out the longest attack at a distance of more than 2,300 kilometers from Israel. According to reports, the attacks aim to ensure air superiority over all of Iran.

Iran has said it is ready for an agreement that would prevent it from creating nuclear weapons but insists on its right to develop atomic energy.
