The King presented Beckham with an award: the legendary football player received the title of knight

Legendary footballer David Beckham has been knighted for his services to sport and charity, the British government announced on the occasion of King Charles III’s birthday.

Beckham will now be known as Sir David, while his wife Victoria, best known as a former Spice Girl, has been made a lady.

The honor recognizes not only Beckham’s sporting achievements but also his significant charitable work. He was made an OBE in 2003 and has now been awarded the country’s highest honor.

Beckham has played 115 times for England, 59 of which as captain. During his career, he has won league titles in four countries and played for top clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. In 2018, the footballer founded his club, Inter Miami, and has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2005.

Beckham shared his emotions about the award: “Growing up in a family that has always been proud to be British – and to receive such an award from our King is an incredible honor. I am happy to share this moment with my loved ones.”

Other famous athletes, such as former England international Rachel Daly and darts stars Luke Littler and Luke Humphries, are also included in the royal honors list.

Beckham will soon be back in the spotlight as the owner of Inter Miami, which is preparing to participate in the Club World Cup, where the team will play Al-Ahly of Egypt this Saturday.
