Communal Scam of the Year: Most suppliers have inflated tariffs – Ukrainians will return millions
There is a significant tariff scandal in Ukraine, as approximately 90% of housing and communal services suppliers have been implicated in violations related to the formation and application of tariffs.
The state authorities conducted inspections and found that violators should return to consumers more than UAH 1.1 million. According to the State Consumer Service, since the beginning of the year, 98 unscheduled inspections have been carried out, during which violations were recorded in 86 enterprises, representing 88% of the total number of enterprises inspected.
Enterprises most often violated the rules of formation of tariffs for water supply and drainage. The inspections imposed 42 penalties worth 1.59 million hryvnias, issued 68 prescriptions for elimination of violations, and are obliged to return UAH 1.16 million to consumers. Additionally, 43 officials received penalties totaling UAH 87,000.
The Deputy Head of the State Consumer Service, Andriy Kretor, emphasized the importance of protecting consumer rights and transparency in tariff policy, stating that it is not only a bonus but the right of every Ukrainian.
Experts strongly urge citizens not to remain indifferent. If you have suspicions of undue tariffs, please get in touch with the State Consumer Service through its official website.
Large-scale housing and Utility checks were resumed only in April 2024. Since then, 845 companies have been reviewed, 380 of which (45%) have been found to have a violation that raises doubts about trust in this area.
It was also recently announced that starting from September 1, monthly payments of 2000 UAH will be sent to the cards of specific categories of citizens.
