Ukrainian names appeared on Coca-Cola bottles in Ukraine — Poles did not appreciate this initiative
Coca-Cola bottles with names on the labels have appeared in Polish stores, including the Biedronka chain. Among traditional Polish names, such as Przemysław, Marta, and Agnieszka, buyers also noticed names typical of Ukraine, including Jurij, Witalij, and Nina. This caused surprise among some customers, who perceived the presence of Ukrainian names as a mistake.
Journalists contacted Coca-Cola Polska for clarification. The company’s press service explained that the selection of names for the “Share a Coke” campaign was carried out in stages, taking into account the cultural characteristics of different communities in the market.
The Coca-Cola team analyzed official lists of names, demographic statistics, and customer data. The final list included both the most popular names and less traditional yet significant ones for different groups within the population.
The company also utilizes artificial intelligence and social media monitoring to track popular abbreviations and youth slang, aiming to communicate in the same language as young people and multicultural communities.
Local teams verified all names to ensure the campaign remained inclusive and accurately reflected the diversity of modern society.
Despite this, some social media users expressed dissatisfaction with this approach. Some of them even called for a boycott of Coca-Cola products, while others emphasized that in other countries, this is considered normal. For example, in Britain, Polish names can often be seen on bottles.
