The most harmful canned foods that Ukrainians buy almost every day have been named
Among the numerous canned foods available on store shelves, products of questionable quality are becoming increasingly prevalent. Our material highlights the most harmful canned foods that warrant attention.
Problems with canned fish
Canned fish is the most counterfeited. Sprats, sardines, and tuna are popular, which attracts the attention of unscrupulous manufacturers. A common violation is the replacement of expensive fish species with cheaper ones. For example, sardines can be used as a substitute for tuna, and smaller, less valuable fish can be used instead of high-quality sprats.
According to state standards, these canned foods should only contain fish, water, oil, and salt. You can determine a fake by the texture of the fish: in salmon, the fibers are usually large and gathered together, while in other species, they are less pronounced. It is also essential to pay attention to the oil – it must be clean and free of impurities.
Canned meat counterfeiting
Canned meat, in particular stew, is often counterfeited. The high demand for this product among the military, tourists, and ordinary buyers prompts manufacturers to reduce the meat content by adding fat, skin, cartilage, and even soy and grain additives.
It is better to choose canned meat in glass containers – this makes it easier to assess the ratio of meat to filling. If you decide on cans, gently shake the package. If the contents move significantly, this may indicate that there is too much liquid and not enough meat.
Risks with canned mushrooms
Marinated mushrooms are also susceptible to counterfeiting. The main problem is the inability to check under what conditions and where the mushrooms were collected.
If mushrooms grow in polluted areas, where the content of heavy metals may be elevated, this can pose a threat to consumer health.
Pay attention to the quality of products to protect yourself from possible dangers. Keep an eye on the news about product prices, as they are subject to frequent changes.
