”Lilo and Stitch” became the highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025

Disney’s new full-length remake of “Lilo and Stitch” has become the highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2025. According to Deadline, the film’s global box office gross exceeded $957 million.

The film is a new interpretation of the popular 2002 cartoon. The plot revolves around the friendship between a little Hawaiian girl, Lilo, and an alien, Stitch, who escaped from his planet.

Maya Kealoha played the leading role. The cast also includes Sidney Agudong, Chris Sanders, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance, and others.

“Lilo and Stitch” premiered on May 22. The film is in its sixth week in theaters and has surpassed the previous leader of the year, “Minecraft in the Cinema,” which collected $954.9 million at the global box office.

In the US, Minecraft: The Movie remains the top-grossing film with a domestic gross of $423.9 million, while Lilo & Stitch has a domestic gross of $403.7 million.

Despite this, the film directed by Dean Fleischer Kemp has the potential to break the billion-dollar mark. The most successful markets for the film were Mexico ($66.1 million), the United Kingdom ($47.1 million), France ($39.8 million), Brazil ($36 million), Germany ($30.2 million), Spain ($25.9 million) and China ($25.2 million).

Along with Minecraft: The Movie, the Disney film is one of two projects this year that managed to cross the $900 million mark.

It should be noted that Formula 1 has the potential to become Apple’s highest-grossing film, surpassing Napoleon.
