”Shame on those who steal from the military”: hearing postponed in the case of a major who profited from selling products from the Ukrainian Armed Forces training center

Scandal in “Desna”: the head of the rear is suspected of corruption

According to law enforcement agencies, Vasyl Osipenko, the head of the rear of the “Desna” training center, likely organized an enrichment scheme that involved significantly underfeeding the military. The court hearing, scheduled for July 3, was postponed to July 7 at the request of the lawyer. The public, concerned about the possibility of closing this case, held a protest outside the court.

Serviceman Dmytro Kukharchuk drew attention to this case by publishing a post on Facebook, which quickly gained popularity, garnering approximately 1,900 likes and 9,500 shares.

“Most likely, they just want to release him. Such looting should be publicly punished!” – noted Kukharchuk.

According to Kukharchuk, service members from Unit A1048 regularly exported food intended for the army and sold it through private stores, making a profit from the sales.

“Major Osipenko, together with Sergeant Shutenko, exported state products and sold them in cafes and to private individuals,” the military man noted.

Lawyers representing the training center confirmed that the monthly losses from this scheme could amount to approximately half a million hryvnias, and the thefts themselves were recorded 59 times.

Vasyl Osipenko was detained on January 27, and a search was conducted at his house and several addresses where he had been staying. During the search, significant stocks of food and cash were found.

A representative of the military unit reported that money was found in both national and foreign currency. Law enforcement officers seized assets obtained illegally.

Vasyl Osipenko was placed under house arrest. Dmytro Kukharchuk commented that the option of his return to service with the possibility of “returning to the case after the war” is probably being discussed.

On July 3, the Kozelets District Court held another hearing, but due to the absence of a lawyer, it was postponed to July 7. The public is inclined to believe that the case may be closed without imposing liability.

Journalists and veterans took to the streets to protest, demanding that the case be continued and the guilty be punished. At the rally, protesters held posters with the inscriptions: “Shame on those who rob the army.”

Osipenko partially admits his guilt while remaining cautious in his comments, noting that he will provide all the explanations during the trial.
