Seasonal berries have become cheaper: what changes have already occurred and what to expect in the future
Ukraine is experiencing a decline in prices for seasonal berries, particularly strawberries and blueberries. Prices for strawberries have decreased over the past week, according to the EastFruit project.
The situation on the strawberry market is as follows: due to a significant increase in the volume of products from local producers and moderate demand, prices are decreasing. It is worth noting that most of the harvest turned out to be of poor quality.
Currently, strawberry prices range from 90 to 160 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 16% lower than at the end of last week, when the cost was 110–180 hryvnias. However, the cost of berries remains 64% higher than it was at the same period in 2024. Experts believe that prices may decrease even further in the coming days due to increased supply and poor product quality.
As for blueberry prices, a significant drop in value is still observed. The blueberry picking season in Ukraine began with a delay of about a week, which initially kept prices high. However, by early July, they had already started to decline rapidly.
On July 1, prices on wholesale markets looked like this:
- Shuvar (Lviv): 300–450 hryvnias per kilo;
- “Stolichny” (Kyiv): 300–350 hryvnias per kilo;
- “Pochatok” (Odesa region): 400–450 hryvnias per kilo.
Compared to the end of June, blueberry prices have decreased by 15–30%, with the most significant decreases observed in Kyiv (30%), Lviv (21%), and Odessa (17%). Analysts predict that blueberry prices will continue to fall, approaching a competitive level on the European Union market, since Ukraine is one of the major exporters of this berry on EU markets.
