The US intends to significantly increase the volume of purchases of missiles for the Patriot air defense system

The US Army plans to invest more than $1.3 billion in Patriot missile defense systems through 2026, according to a Bloomberg source citing Pentagon documents.

On April 16, military commanders decided to increase the number of planned interceptor missile purchases from 3,376 to 13,773 units. This indicates an increased emphasis by the US military on Patriot systems, which are an essential component of air defense.

These batteries are critical not only for American bases in the Middle East but also for Ukraine, where the Patriot system is actively used to repel Russian missile attacks.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the United States, together with its allies, has provided Ukraine with three Patriot batteries. Along with the systems, a significant number of missiles were transferred, helping Ukraine destroy Russian ballistic and cruise missiles.

According to Bloomberg, the US has been gradually increasing the production of Patriot missiles since 2020. By the end of 2024, it is already planned to purchase 2,047 PAC-3 MSE missiles, with 230 scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 214 in 2025.

In addition, the active increase in Patriot missile stocks is part of the long-term US strategy to strengthen the collective security system, in the context of growing threats from Russia and Iran.
