Geomagnetic activity has reached its maximum: a 6-point storm is recorded in Ukraine today

On July 17, the Earth is experiencing a significant increase in geomagnetic activity, with the K-index potentially reaching level 6, indicating the onset of a strong magnetic storm.

The Meteorological Agency provided the information.

Several class C flares were recorded on the Sun over the past day. Although they do not directly affect our planet, they contribute to an increase in the overall level of geomagnetic oscillations, which can lead to instability in the magnetosphere.

The impact of the storm on people’s well-being

Even during periods of low activity, sensitive people may experience discomfort. Possible symptoms include:

headache or migraine;

mood swings, anxiety, or apathy;

sleep disturbances;

blood pressure fluctuations;

exacerbation of cardiovascular or neurological problems;

increased risk of blood clots.

People most at risk are the elderly, pregnant women, and those with cardiovascular and neurological diseases.

Recommendations for reducing the impact of the storm on the body

Experts suggest following a few simple tips:

Make sure you drink enough clean water or herbal tea.

Limit the consumption of coffee, alcohol, and smoking;

eat light meals rich in vegetables and herbs;

spend more time outdoors;

regularly ventilate the room;

Take a contrast shower, especially before going to bed.

Reduce stress levels and postpone important decisions.

What is the K-index?

This indicator indicates the level of geomagnetic activity and varies from 0 to 9. A level of up to 4 is considered a safe mark. When the value starts with 5, magnetic storms can affect not only people’s well-being but also the operation of technical devices, such as GPS, communications, and power grids.

Weather centers regularly update data, providing information every three hours. It is essential to follow the latest data from NOAA, Meteoagent, the US Space Weather Center, and the Ukrhydrometcenter.

Magnetic storms can affect people, causing headaches, fatigue, irritation, sleep disturbances, and exacerbation of chronic diseases, which are linked to changes in the geomagnetic background that impact atmospheric pressure and the nervous system.
