The minimum allowance: what additional payments are available for pensioners with a long service record
In Ukraine, citizens who have reached retirement age and have insurance experience exceeding the established norms have the opportunity to receive an additional pension. This supplement, however, is not significant. According to the Pension Fund, even years of overtime are compensated modestly – this amount barely covers basic food costs.
Citizens who have insurance experience exceeding the legally established norm can count on this increase. The length of service norm is determined depending on the date of pension assignment:
- For pensions assigned before October 2011, the norm is over 25 years for men and over 20 years for women.
- For pensions assigned after October 2011, the norm is over 35 years for men and over 30 years for women.
The supplement is 1% of the basic pension for each full year of experience exceeding the established norm. At the same time, it cannot exceed 1% of the subsistence minimum for persons who cannot work.
In 2025, the subsistence minimum for disabled persons is set at 2,361 hryvnia, which means that pensioners will receive only 23.61 hryvnia in additional payments for each additional year of service. For example, if a person has 10 years of overtime service, the total additional fee will be only 236.10 hryvnia per month.
Although there are no restrictions on the number of years of service, even 20 or 30 additional years can be taken into account, but this will not lead to a significant increase in payments.
It was previously reported that pensioners can also claim 5 additional payments. Also, new indicators for calculating pensions have been approved, which allows some Ukrainians to receive 500 hryvnia more.
