Saint Laurent debuts at the Venice Film Festival with a film starring Hollywood stars

In 2023, the design company Saint Laurent Productions will debut at the Venice Film Festival with the feature film “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother”, directed by Jim Jarmusch. The leading roles are played by famous actors: Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Charlotte Rampling, India Moore, Tom Waits, and Vicky Krieps.

The film consists of three parts. The first, “Father”, is set in the northeastern United States, the second, “Mother”, is filmed in Ireland, and the third, “Sister, Brother”, takes place in Paris. It is a comedy combined with the characteristic melancholy inherent in Jarmusch.

Although participation in the Venice Festival is a new stage for Saint Laurent Productions, the company has already established itself at the Cannes Film Festival, where it presented Pedro Almodóvar’s short film “Strange Way of Life” and Jean-Luc Godard’s project “Strange Wars”. Their feature films, such as Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Perez, Paolo Sorrentino’s Partenope, and David Cronenberg’s Shroud, have also received acclaim.

Among the films debuting at this year’s Venice Film Festival is Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine, starring Dwayne Johnson as two-time UFC champion Mark Kerr and Emily Blunt as his wife. Famous Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk will also appear in the film, playing Ukrainian MMA fighter Igor Vovchanchyn.

The festival will also premiere Bougonia, a collaboration between Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone, and Luca Guadagnino’s psychological drama After the Hunt, starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri.

Netflix will present three original films: Kathryn Bigelow’s “House of Dynamite,” set during a fictional national security crisis, starring Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson; Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama “Jay Kelly,” starring George Clooney; and Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” a new take on the classic monster story.

Out-of-competition shows include Julian Schnabel’s detective story “In Dante’s Arms,” starring Oscar Isaac and Gal Gadot; and Sofia Coppola’s documentary about fashion designer Marc Jacobs, “Mark by Sophia.”

Of particular note is Olivier Assayas’s sweeping political thriller “The Wizard of the Kremlin,” starring Jude Law as a young Vladimir Putin and Paul Dano in another key role.

Another film premiere of the festival is François Ozon’s adaptation of Albert Camus’ classic The Stranger, which explores themes of human cruelty and existentialism in the Algerian context of the 1930s.
