State Bureau of Investigation detained a military unit accountant for embezzling over 800,000 hryvnias
In the Zhytomyr region, law enforcement officers have raised suspicions against an accountant of a military unit, who, according to the investigation, set up a scheme to misappropriate budget funds.
Investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, established that the accountant had been forging financial documents for seven months. They state that one of the service members was allegedly credited with additional payments.
In reality, these funds were not transferred to the soldier, but to the accountant’s account. Thus, he took possession of over 800 thousand hryvnias, which were supposed to be spent on the needs of the military.
Currently, measures are underway to return the misappropriated funds to the state budget. The accountant is charged with a crime under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which concerns misappropriation of property in massive amounts during martial law. This article provides for a penalty of up to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The prosecutorial activity in this case is under the control of the Zhytomyr Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Field of Defense of the Central Region. Earlier, there were reports of suspicion of a Ukrainian commander and his deputy from a military unit in Kyiv, who organized false documents about participation in combat missions.
