Black smoke in Volgograd: Russians report ‘planned dumping’

A large column of black smoke was recorded above an oil refinery in Volgograd. Local sources report a possible fire, while authorities reassure the population, claiming it is a “planned release.”

A situation has arisen in this area that has raised concern among residents, resulting in numerous reports of a possible fire at the plant. Official information on social networks indicates that a “planned release of petroleum products” is currently being carried out at the facility in connection with preparations for tank repairs.

One of the Telegram channels, “Volgograd,” attempted to reassure its subscribers, assuring them that everything is under control. However, in the comments, users expressed doubts about this version: “Are the ambulances also going there as planned?” – they asked on social networks, because they noticed that fire engines were rushing to the plant.

It is also reported that an air alert was previously declared in the city. As part of this incident, Rosaviatsia restricted the reception and departure of aircraft at Volgograd Airport. This happened against the background of news about a new drone attack on fuel infrastructure facilities.

According to Bloomberg, on August 15, one of the primary oil refineries of Lukoil stopped receiving oil after recent attacks by Ukrainian drones. The agency’s source reported that the fall of drone debris led to a leak of oil products and a fire. According to regional services, the fire was extinguished in approximately 19 hours.

The Volgograd refinery is one of the largest plants in Russia, with a design capacity of about 300,000 barrels per day. It supplies fuel to the southern regions of the country and exports products. At the beginning of the year, the plant repeatedly became the target of drone attacks.

Lukoil representatives are currently refraining from commenting.
