Evaders have chosen a new way to escape: the number has increased many times over

In 2025, 911 men aged 18 to 60 were detained on the border between Ukraine and Belarus. This information was provided by representatives of the State Border Guard Service, responding to a request from journalists.

Over the past year, there has been an almost threefold increase in the number of men trying to leave for Belarus. In 2024, 336 attempts were recorded, in 2023, only 26, and in 2022, 61.

According to border guards, the largest number of detained persons was found in the Rivne region – 531 people since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In the Zhytomyr region, 484 were detained, in Volyn – 281, and in the Kyiv region, only 38. At the same time, Volyn became the only region from which attempts were made to cross the border with Belarus in the first year of the war.

From January 1 to August 1, 2025, 911 cases of attempted illegal border crossing with Belarus were registered. In 2022, all cases (61) occurred in Volyn; in 2023, 26 violations were recorded (24 in Volyn and 2 in the Rivne region). In 2024, the number of attempts increased to 336, where 164 cases occurred in the Rivne region, 112 in the Zhytomyr region, 58 in the Volyn region, and 2 in the Kyiv region.

It is worth noting that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko actively supports Vladimir Putin. At the beginning of the military aggression against Ukraine, he permitted Russia to deploy its troops on Belarusian territory, from where missile strikes on Ukraine were carried out. Belarusian enterprises are also engaged in the manufacture and supply of scarce components for missiles used by the Kremlin in offensive operations.
