Why is it important to include allergens in a baby’s nutrition and how to do it right
The first stage of feeding is a crucial period in a child’s life. It is at this time that her body first gets acquainted with new products, including potential allergens.
Pediatrician Victoria Khomenko emphasizes the benefits of the gradual introduction of allergenic products into the child’s diet, which helps to reduce the risk of allergy.
The formation of immunity begins during pregnancy: a variety of nutrients in the mother’s diet provide the baby with nutrients through the placenta. In the absence of medical restrictions, a woman can consume dairy products, eggs, fish, seafood, and other possible allergens.
According to current recommendations, the child should be acquainted with allergens starting from 6 months of age. It is essential to do this gradually, especially if the family has allergies. The stages of introducing new products are simple: for the first time, give a small portion, such as a quarter of a teaspoon, and watch the reaction for several days, gradually increasing the dose.
To simplify the process, you can combine new foods with already familiar dishes, such as an egg with vegetable puree or peanut paste with oatmeal. It should be avoided by high-histamine products such as citrus fruits, strawberries, tomatoes, and avocados, as they can cause pseudo-allergic reactions.
Parents should oversee them. Alarming symptoms can be rash, vomiting, swelling, or shortness of breath. In such cases, consult your doctor immediately.
