Dolphin Day September 12: Why this symbol of freedom is under threat

This day is dedicated to dolphins – unique marine mammals known for their intelligence and emotional capacity. World Dolphin Day is an opportunity to learn more about these creatures and take part in their conservation.

Every year on September 12, a holiday is celebrated, which aims to raise awareness of the need to protect dolphins. These animals are not only cute, but they are highly developed creatures with complex social relationships, the ability to learn, and the capacity to show empathy.

The holiday was initiated by environmental organizations that focus on threats to dolphins, including water pollution, poaching, noise from maritime transport, loss of natural habitats, and exploitation of dolphins in entertainment shows.

In many countries, information campaigns, flash mobs, eco-collections, coastal cleanups, and exhibitions of children’s drawings related to dolphins will be held. Zoos and aquariums often organize special events, but activists are increasingly protesting against the captivity of dolphins.

In Ukraine, this holiday holds special significance, as the Black Sea is home to various species of dolphins, including bottlenose dolphins and Azov dolphins. The problems of water pollution, the death of animals in nets, and unscrupulous tourism are all relevant, indicating the need for a careful attitude towards nature.

Everyone can contribute by refusing to use plastic, supporting environmental initiatives, and spreading knowledge about threats to marine life. The most important thing is to respect the right of dolphins to live freely in the ocean, and not in artificial conditions.

World Dolphin Day is not only about ecology, but about unity with all living creatures on our planet.
