Up to 150 thousand hryvnias per child: the Rada initiates an increase in payments

The demographic situation in Ukraine remains one of the most serious problems that requires urgent resolution. Support for companies with children is of critical importance for the future of the state, since the current payments at the birth of a child are clearly insufficient. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Finance Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Danylo Hetmantsev, in his interview.

Hetmantsev noted that one-time payments at the birth of a child are not a comprehensive solution to the demographic crisis, but rather only part of the broader problem. He recalled that back in 2012, Ukrainian families received $5,000 for the birth of the first child, $10,000 for the second, and $15,000 for the third and subsequent children. However, after the economic crisis, these payments were frozen at the level of 40,000 hryvnias, and now they are 50,000 hryvnias.

Hetmantsev emphasized that this amount is not enough and needs to be increased. He also noted that even before the war, his proposal had provided for the introduction of payments in the amounts of 50, 100, and 150 thousand hryvnias, and these figures should be revised. “I cannot say that 50,000 hryvnias is a significant burden on the budget. I believe that this amount should be increased, because the demographic crisis is the number one problem for Ukraine today,” he emphasized.

Additionally, Getmantsev emphasized the need to expand social programs nationwide. He stresses the importance of increasing teachers’ salaries, improving pension levels, the subsistence minimum, and other social benefits. In war conditions, the number of people living on the verge of poverty is increasing, so supporting these categories becomes a priority. Getmantsev also noted that the funds for support are mainly directed to the purchase of Ukrainian-made goods, which stimulates the country’s economy.
