Fruit storage expert Vlatka Lejk notes that the method of storing peaches depends on their ripeness. If you bought them unripe, it is best to store them at room temperature, for example, on the kitchen counter. Refrigeration can slow down the ripening process, resulting in a loss of juiciness and a less appealing appearance.

According to the expert, if the peaches are very hard and you want to speed up their ripening, place them in a paper bag. This will allow the accumulation of natural gases that promote ripening. Additionally, if you put other fruits that emit ethylene in the bag, such as apples or bananas, the ripening process will be even faster.

It is also essential to try to avoid peaches from colliding with each other. If you have enough space, it is better to place them separately, as they quickly crumple, which can lead to spoilage.

Once peaches have reached their optimum ripeness, they should be appropriately stored to prevent them from overripening. If the fruit is already ripe, it is recommended to store it in the refrigerator until you are ready to eat. It is advisable to consume it within one to three days, keeping it separate from other fruits and vegetables.
