Elon Musk lost the title of the richest person in the world: who took his place

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has become the world’s richest person for the first time, surpassing Elon Musk, according to Bloomberg.

His fortune has increased by $101 billion after Oracle reported quarterly results that beat analysts’ estimates. Ellison’s total wealth now stands at $393 billion, surpassing Musk, who is estimated to be worth $385 billion. The gain was the most significant one-day gain ever recorded on the billionaires’ index.

Oracle shares have risen 45% this year, while Tesla shares have fallen 13%.

Elon Musk topped the list of the world’s wealthiest people for the first time in 2021. He has changed positions several times, losing ground to Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, and Bernard Arnault of LVMH. Last year, Musk regained the top spot, holding it for more than 300 days.

Meanwhile, Musk’s fortune has grown 1.8 times over the year, primarily due to the market value growth of his companies xAI and SpaceX, and as of March 7, reached $342 billion.

Among the world’s wealth leaders:

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta ($216 billion);

Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon ($215 billion);

Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle ($192 billion);

The Arnault family ($178 billion).

According to Forbes, the total capital of all billionaires on the list increased by $2 trillion, reaching a record $16.1 trillion, which exceeds the annual GDP of most countries in the world except the United States and China.

In 2025, Forbes added 247 new names to its list, bringing the total number of billionaires to 3,028, the highest since 1987.

Another interesting fact: Elon Musk is being sued for using images from Blade Runner in Tesla advertising.
