Expert reveals the truth about tariff increases: the main reason is greed

There are no good reasons to increase electricity tariffs. The primary reason is the greed of officials and energy company owners.

Economic and political expert Yuriy Gavrylechko noted in his commentary that there is currently no argument for increasing electricity prices by 15%. The only factor that influences this is the interest of government officials, oligarchs, and energy network leaders.

Gavrylechko also emphasized that employees of the National Commission for the Regulation of Energy and Power Generation and Energy Efficiency have some of the highest salaries among civil servants, overlooking the fact that the incomes of the population are not growing significantly. “Tariffs cannot be market-based; they are set to balance the interests of consumers, the state, and business. Unfortunately, in our country, the interests of consumers are ignored,” the expert noted.

He noted that current electricity prices significantly exceed the costs of its production. Even if only a quarter of consumers pay their bills, this will be enough for energy companies and officials to make a profit.

Recall that the Ministry of Economy predicts an increase in electricity tariffs by 15% annually in 2026-2028 with a permissible deviation of 5%.

Earlier, it was reported that the thermal power plant plans to introduce new heating tariffs for the winter period. News was also published about who can pay only 25% of the utility costs.
