Pensioners risk losing benefits: 5 reasons why they may lose their pension

In September, some pensioners may experience a temporary interruption in their payments.

To resume payments that have been suspended, you must contact the local branch of the Pension Fund and correct the reason for the suspension. This does not mean that everyone will be deprived of their pensions forever; however, specific categories of citizens may encounter difficulties.

The main reason for the termination of payments is errors in the documents. If the pension is suspended due to inaccurate or outdated data, you must submit the correct information to reinstate it. Another reason is a long trip abroad. If a pensioner moves to live outside Ukraine, payments will also be suspended. However, short-term trips or refugee status do not affect the receipt of a pension.

The third reason is failure to fulfill mandatory identification, which often applies to internally displaced persons who must confirm their identity within a specific period. The fourth reason concerns the situation when a person is declared missing. In this case, payments are suspended until the person is found. The fifth reason is if the pension has not been received for more than six months. In such a situation, payments are also frozen.

All these problems can be solved. Pension Fund employees advise that if any problem is detected, please get in touch with your branch immediately. Payments will be resumed after the issues have been resolved.

Particular attention should be paid to those who retired for long service. If a person is re-employed in the same position as before, payments may be suspended.
